Gilda's Club is named in honor of Gilda Radner, who, when describing the emotional and social support she received when she had cancer, called for such places of participation, education, hope and friendship to be made available for people with cancer and their families and friends everywhere. Gilda's Club Seattle offers a free, broad, community-based program of support, serving anyone touched by cancer – from diagnosis, through treatment and post-treatment, survivorship, and bereavement. Jean Thompson is pleased to be a board member of Gilda’s Club Seattle. On July 23rd, Seattle Chocolates partnered with Gilda’s Club Seattle and Majestic Bay Theater to present a private screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, with all proceeds being donated to Gilda's Club Seattle. |

This year, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Climb to Fight Breast Cancer® enters its 14th year. To date, over 625 climbers have taken on this adventure, over $5.1 million dollars has been raised for life saving research, and over 15,000 donors have contributed. This summer, Jean Thompson, Owner and CEO, Niel Campbell, President and Joe Slye, Controller of Seattle Chocolates will join this amazing effort, with a fundraising target of $20,000, when they tackle the challenge of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Crowned by eternal snows at 19,340 ft, the mighty Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and dominates its landscape unlike any other. Located in Tanzania, this extinct volcano looms over five ecosystems and large game reserves; its dramatic terrain is certainly one of the world's most impressive sights.

City of Hope boasts a comprehensive breast cancer program from early detection, prevention, treatment, diagnosis and genetic counseling. In addition, our researchers have a number of clinical trials in using the body’s own immune system to defeat cancer, which would make it possible to kill tumors while avoiding side effects caused by damage to healthy cells; combining the power of existing medicines with other cancer fighting drugs to result in less toxic and more effective treatments. In September 2010, Seattle Chocolates partnered with Bartell Drug Stores to sell truffle bars to benefit the City of Hope Northwest Chapter. We are proud to have sold 8,400 bars...and counting. |
